John Cusack Wins Restraining Order

By Associated Press
Published July 19, 2006, 6:58 AM CDT

SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- John Cusack won a temporary restraining order Tuesday against a woman he claims has been stalking him for more than 18 months.

Emily Leatherman must stay at least 500 feet from the 40-year-old actor, his home, workplace, car and any company or office where he does business, Superior Court Judge Linda K. Lefkowitz ruled.

Cusack was not in court for the ruling.

Leatherman, who is identified in court papers as being homeless, could not immediately be reached for comment.

In court papers filed last month, Cusack said the 31-year-old woman "is showing unusual interest by stalking, throwing long letters of interest over my fence in bags with rocks and screwdrivers inside, making unannounced visits to offices of people I work with in an attempt to meet with me and listing my address as her own during a recent arrest."

The woman "threatens to commit acts of violence against herself if I do not help her," Cusack's court papers stated.

The star of "The Ice Harvest" and "Must Love Dogs" said he has never met Leatherman but her mail had been arriving at his home.

Ok- I have a proposition for you all...some homework so to speak...I would like everyone here to see 'MAX' & if you have already (like myself) I want you to rewatch it. Let's try to do this and report back in a week or so (or whenever you happen to read this thread)...I mean Come on--can't you steal away a couple hours to watch a great film and take some time to think about it? Come back here and give your report...what you liked or didn't like...or larger concepts that pull you too...

I have always had a thing for studying WWI & WWII & the people that in essence helped create it and the people whose lives were...and are...changed because of them. This movie touches on Adolf Hitler's desire to be an visual artist himself...and him being unsuccessful at it. However his internal desire -I think- to be on any kind of a stage turned him into a performance artist of sorts with his rise to power in the Nazi realm... It also -I think- helped shape and define his attitude towards artists and what they created ...calling art he didn't like 'degenerate art'--which in fact was quite beautiful and timeless and enriching imagery...

How does John Cusack fit in?? Well, in this flick he plays the role of an artist...one armed and back from the war--so an artist no more, but now an art dealer... who crosses paths with the younger aspiring artist Adolf--also a veteran... Cusack's character Max encourages Adolf to channel his raw energy and beliefs into his art...which in turn evolves into his extreme political fascination. It is a really powerful film--one that I don't think a lot of people may have seen...but ought to.

So once again...the homework...watch MAX...think about it...and report back here. Let's have a mental pow-wow--- I'm going to do it too. Grab some friends you think might be interested to share the film with---cut up some cheese and pour some wine while taking it all in...or make it an individual adventure--a week everyone...try it. ;) We could make this a regular thing...who knows--let me know if you're interested in doing that too! Bye for now!

I just wanted to make this a different thread... hope you all don't mind...

I for one am not interested in seeing his new movie...'Must Love Dogs' is it?? I hate to say it, but John has a way of balancing the crappy film with the choice film... This one will probably be crappy...
I would rather put in a DVD of 'Bullets Over Broadway' or 'High Fidelity' or even 'Shadows and Fog'...or 'Cradle Will Rock' or 'Max'...then go pay $$$ to see him in a crappy flick-- Sorry John...
Don't get me wrong- I love seeing his films, but there certainly are ones where he's just doing it to pay the bills--or getting some cash to make one of his choice films. Plus- I don't begrudge him the work...you want to keep working of course...but yes- I think this one will be crap...
Of course that's just my opinion...;)
